This post shows the different fonts used by music
magazines, musicians and record labels. Most of the record labels have fonts
that are bold and sharp, like NME, Vlog 'N' Roll and Lanark records. A lot of
the musicians either have a handwritten/personalized logo or a blocked letter
logo. For example, Ed Sheeran has a handwritten like font with a little dog
print whereas Adele has a simple Arial like font.
The logos above are mainly black and white which gives the
effect that they don’t need to be colourful to grab the reader’s attention.
However, I think that adding colour can allow you to change this colour in
future editions according to the theme of that cover.
During this task, I found that most of the music magazines
liked to keep their fonts and logos simple which I found quite surprising as I would
have thought they would have been the ones with the most extravagant fonts.
This task has allowed me to see other fonts that are used in the music industry and has given me some ideas for fonts I might possible go for when creating my own masthead and magazine. It has also shown me different fonts artists use so this will help when I am creating my artist.
