Audience Research

This is the survey I made on SurveyMonkey for my audience research. I sent to teenagers through Whatsapp and text messages. Altogether I got 22 responses which means I got a range of different opinions about music magazines. These are the results:

Question 1:
Do you read music magazine?
I asked this question to find out how many people in my target audience actually read music magazines.

The results show that the majority of my target audience don't buy music magazines. 59.09% said NO, 31.82% said SOMETIMES and 9.09% said YES.

Question 2:
Please give a comment on why you selected the above answer
I asked this to find out why they had answer Yes, No or Sometimes on the question above.

The responses above show that a lot of my target audience don't show an interest in music magazines or prefer to read about music on the internet. This tells me that I need to put interesting articles and extras on the front cover of my magazine to gain the interest of my target market.

Question 3:
What genre of music magazine would/do you buy/read? More than one option may be chosen.
I asked this to find out what genre/s are the most popular and which genre/s would people read music magazines about.

10 out of 22 people chose Indie for the genre of music magazine they would most likely read. 9 out of 10 chose Pop which is the genre I have chosen to do for my music magazine. This tells me that Indie and Pop at the most popular genres according to my target audience. People who clicked other mainly chose Hip-Hop as another genre they would read.

Question 4:
How much would/do you pay for a music magazine?
I asked this to find out exactly how much my target audience were willing to pay for a music magazine.

These results show how much my target audience are willing to pay for a music magazine. The maximum they would pay was £4.99 and no one would pay more than £5. The majority of my target audience voted for £1 - £2.50. The other highly voted amount was £0 (Free). This gives me an indication of which bracket i should price my magazine in.

Question 5:
Which features do/would you think stand out the most?
I asked the question to see what stands out most to my target audience about a music magazine.

These results show what my target audience thinks stands out the most on a music magazine. The feature with the highest percentage is Colour Scheme. The second highest feature was Artist on the front cover. This tells me that when I am branding my artist I have to make him/her look appealing. Also I have to put a lot of thought into my colour scheme.

Question 6:
What do you think would typically be on/in a pop magazine?
I asked this to get an idea of what my target audience thought would be in and on a pop magazine.

These are the comments my target audience made about what they thought was on/in a pop magazine. The common answers are:

  • Well-Known pop stars
  • Bright/ Vibrant colours
  • Latest Gossip
  • Boy Bands
  • New music
This gives me a lot of information about what to include on my front cover and inside. Also it gives me an idea of what colours I need to use as well.
